Background to the collection

The Samuel Marsden Archives, which is administered by the Moore College Library, is the principal repository for the institutional records of Moore College, as well as the records of organizations and individuals with a connection to Moore College, the Anglican Diocese of Sydney and/or the evangelical tradition in Australia. The Samuel Marsden Archives supports the College’s mission of teaching and research by preserving and providing access to historical records and documenting an accurate and authentic record of the life of the College. Guides and finding aids to archival collections are available online.

The archives was given the name “Samuel Marsden Archives” to honour the association between Moore College and St. John’s Church, Parramatta, whose first rector was Samuel Marsden. He is one of the most significant figures in the religious history of New South Wales, and the archives contains a large number of his sermon manuscripts.
